MGC HOSTS COCHRAN BLECKLEY RECREATION DEPARTMENT NIGHT
By: Tricia Purser Release Date:05/03/2012

(Cochran, GA) – Middle Georgia College recently hosted Cochran Bleckley Recreation Department (CBRD) Night at a Warrior’s baseball game against Darton College. The CBRD players were able to run out on the field with the MGC player that plays the same position that they do and stay out for the National Anthem. The players and their families stayed to watch the Warriors’ 9-2 victory over Darton.

MGC Athletic Director Charles Mullis said, “Friday night’s game against Darton College was very exciting. Not only did Middle Georgia College wrap up another Region 17 Conference Championship, but it provided the perfect format to recognize future MGC players involved in our local recreation department. One of our initiatives this year is to build a stronger relationship between our recreation department and local schools, and Friday night provided a great opportunity. I know the young players loved running onto the field with the MGC starting lineup and all the fans loved watching it. Look for future events where we can celebrate the success of our young local athletes by attending MGC games.”

MGC Baseball Coach Craig Young said the event was a great way to give back to the kids in the community. “I know they are thrilled to get a chance to run to their position and stand on the field for the playing of the National Anthem. I also know it means a lot to our players; it gives them a sense of being a good role model for all the kids. Who knows, one of these kids may be playing at Middle Georgia one day. They will remember Recreation Night, and that may be one reason they decide to come here to attend college.”
MGC Warrior Bo Way, a sophomore from Brunswick, said he thought it was fun to have all the kids run out to the positions with the players. “They get to know who we are, and we remember who they are,” he said. “They see you in town and come up and talk to you. Their parents thank you and it gives you a good feeling.”

Beau Williams, catcher for the CBRD Red Sox and son of Michael and Rebecca Williams, said "I was excited to go to the MGC ball game. My favorite part was running onto the ball field with the catcher of the team. I would definitely like to be a part of it again."

Bobby Ard, a CBRD board member, said “I would just like to say thank you to Coach Young and all the players that took time with the CBRD players last Friday night. Just being able to watch the kids’ faces light up when the MGC players talked to them and to see the smiles on their faces when they took the field was the highlight of the night. I hope this can be the start of an ongoing relationship between the MGC baseball team and the young men that play ball at the CRBD.”
