![]() MGC SCIENCE CLUB HOSTS “BUG NIGHT” (Cochran, GA) – Middle Georgia College Science Club recently hosted “Bug Night” featuring several entomology speakers who spoke about their experiences researching or teaching about insects and how they became interested in a career studying insects. MGC Associate Professor of Biology Dr. Clint Ready spoke about his journey from being an undergraduate fascinated by bugs that bite to a graduate student studying fire ants. Other speakers included Dr. E.H. Barman from Georgia College and State University who amused the audience with his stories of studying water bugs; Dr. Jeff Burne from Macon State who showed the audience a bright pink katydid found in his backyard; Dr. Ted Cottrell, who spoke on using pheromones and fungi to control insect pests of economically important crops; and Dr. John Ruberson from the UGA Tifton Campus who explained why he studies bugs – to travel, meet new people and help others. Dr. Sharon Mozley-Standridge, an assistant professor of biology, said “Overall everyone who attended, including students, faculty, and staff, were greatly entertained and educated on bugs and becoming a bug scientist.” |
