MGC DUBLIN CAMPUS HOLDS BATTLE OF THE BANDS

(Cochran, GA) – Middle Georgia College Dublin Campus recently held its Battle of the Bands at the Dublin High School Auditorium. Dayfall won 1st place and the $1,000 prize, while Rack Em Pete won 2nd place and the $500 prize. Flashbach won People’s Choice and the $350 prize. The event was sponsored by the MGC Dublin Campus Student Government Association.

Dayfall is a rock band from South Georgia who has been featured on the Project 96.1 radio station in Atlanta as well as other local stations. They are currently awaiting the completion of their debut album “No Apologies.” Rack Em Pete is a band from Dublin who plays various genres of music including rock, county, and even jazz. Flashbach, from Central Georgia, perform classic country and rock n roll songs from the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. They frequently perform for several of the Grand Ole Opry houses in Georgia.

MGC Dublin’s Student Services Coordinator Jerene Gilliam said “Overall, we were extremely pleased with this year’s event. Everything came together really well for a crowd-pleasing performance. MGC SGA would like to thank everyone who was a part of Battle of the Bands 2012, especially this year’s talent: Dayfall, Rack Em Pete, and Flashbach.”

The event was emceed by Korey Sutton, the program director for 107.9 the Buzz radio station in Middle Georgia. The bands were judged by Derrick Hampton, Jason Finley, and Brian Owens. Georgia native and current Dublin resident Hampton has been writing songs for over 30 years, and was a top ten finalist in the Nashville Songwriters Association contest in 2010 and 2011. Finley is the co-owner of Jim’s Ultimate Guitar Shop in Dublin as well as the lead guitarist and singer for the band Down from Zero. Owens is the drum expert and instructor at Jim’s Ultimate Guitar Shop and is also the drummer for Down from Zero.
