Biography

Peter Gareis is the son of a redheaded Irish Canadian woman and an immaculate German New Yorker, yet he grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. He earned his Bachelors and Masters in English at the University of Georgia with a specialization in grammar and Anglo-Saxon literature. He has been teaching since 1984, mostly at the college level, but with an enjoyable two year detour into the high school environment. It was this sojourn which attracted him to learning support courses and instruction. He was fortunate to stumble into a job at Middle Georgia College in 1992, and he refuses to leave. Peter and his favorite wife, Mert, have offices across the hall from each other and still like each other a lot. Together they have three feral human children: O'Grady (1996), Nicholas (2002), and Susan Lee (2003). The family lives on 13 acres by a swamp, where they enjoy indoor and outdoor activities and heavy doses of intellectual stimulation. In part, this is because Peter suffers from a fascination with just about everything, but most of it boils down to figuring out how the world is put together, why it works the way it does, and how entertainingly absurd it often is.
