Coach Craig Young enters his fourteenth season at the helm of the Middle Georgia College Baseball program. Young is a graduate of Union County High School in Blairsville, Georgia. He signed a football scholarship out of high school with Liberty University in Virginia. After a year at Liberty, Young realized his heart was in the game of baseball. He signed a baseball scholarship with Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, Georgia. Young was a team captain in 1984 and 1985. He was also named MVP in 1985. He graduated from Georgia Southwestern in 1985 with a B.S. in Health and Physical Education. He stayed there as a graduate assistant in football and baseball in 1986. In 1986-1987, Young became the head baseball coach and assistant football coach at Elbert County High School in Elberton, Georgia. He led the Blue Devils to the State playoffs in his first season. He returned to Georgia Southwestern State University as an assistant baseball and football coach for 1988-1991. He received his Master’s Degree in Health and Physical Education in 1991 from GSW. He became the head baseball coach at Abraham Baldwin College in Tifton, Georgia in 1991. Young wasted little time building a winning tradition there. His 1993 Stallions won the Region XVII Title and he was named the Region XVII Coach of the Year. Young took over the baseball program at Middle Georgia College in 1997. He has carried on the strong tradition at MGC. His 1999 team won the Region XVII tournament and he was named Region XVII Coach of the Year. In 2001 and 2002 Young carried his first two teams to Grand Junction for the Alpine Bank JUCO World Series. The 2001 team placed sixth in the nation and Young was named East Central District Coach of the Year. The 2002 team compiled a 50-16 mark and placed seventh nationally.
