Residency Petition for Tuition Classification
University System of Georgia students are responsible for registering under the proper tuition classification. Students who have been classified as out-of-state for tuition purposes and believe they are entitled to be classified in-state for tuition purposes may petition the institution for a change of status. Out-of-State Tuition Waivers Under certain conditions, an institution may award out-of-state tuition differential waivers and assess in-state tuition for non-residents of Georgia. Review the following waivers. Complete and return the waiver form and applicable documentation that fits your particular situation.

  • Academic Common Market - Students majoring in a specialized field that is not offered at a college or university in their state may apply for this waiver through the Southern Regional Education Board http://www.sreb.org/page/1304/academic_common_market.html
  • International and Superior Out-of State Students - International or superior out-of-state students may apply for this waiver. A limited number of this type waiver is available. International and Superior Out-of State Students
  • Georgia Public School Employees - Full-time employees in the public schools of Georgia, the University System of Georgia or the Technical College System of Georgia, their spouses and their dependent children. Teachers employed full-time on military bases in Georgia also qualify for this waiver. Waiver - Public School Employees
  • Economic Advantage - Student or student's parent, spouse, or US court-appointed legal guardian has relocated to the State of Georgia to accept-full-time, self-sustaining employment and has established domicile in the State of Georgia. Waiver - Economic Advantage
  • Non-Resident - Students under the age of 24 whose parent, US court appointed legal guardian, or spouse has maintained domicile in Georgia for at least consecutive 12 months preceding the first day of class. Students over 24 whose spouse has maintained domicile in Georgia for at least 12 consecutive months preceding the first day of class. Waiver - Non-Resident Student
  • Military - Active duty military personnel stationed in Georgia and their dependants. Military Waiver
  • Recently Separated from the Military - Members of a uniformed military service in the US who, within 12 months of separation from such service, enroll in an academic program and demonstrates an intent to become domiciled in Georgia. This waiver may also be granted to their spouses and dependent children. Waiver - Recently Separated from the Military
