The establishment of a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice at Middle Georgia College (MGC) was approved by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia (Chancellor Davis) on October 13, 2010. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) then approved the program on May 23, 2011 without any substantive changes.
Barring any budget constraints, the initial date of implementation of the 4-year program in criminal Justice is fall semester, 2013. The projected number of students for fall, 2013 is 70. The junior and senior level classes in the BS Program will be offered face-to-face, and the freshman and sophomore level courses will be available in the traditional classroom setting and online. We are expecting our first class to graduate in the spring semester, 2015.
Students who wish to pursue a BS degree in Criminal Justice must meet the following requirements to be considered for admission to the program:
- complete all MGC general institutional admission requirements
- declare a major in Criminal Justice
- complete all courses in Area F with a grade of “C” or higher in each course.
In order to receive a BS degree in Criminal Justice, students must:
- meet all requirements for admission to the Program
- meet all requirements for retention in the Program
- meet all other college graduation requirements.
The BS Program in Criminal Justice is expected to attract traditional and nontraditional students. It will take advantage of the proximity of MGC to federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies in our service area. The primary purpose of the program is to provide a rigorous course of study that will prepare students to work successfully with agencies (police, courts, and corrections) that are designed to administer law, achieve justice, reduce crime, and enhance domestic security.
