By: Tricia Purser Release Date:10/03/2011

(Cochran, GA) – Middle Georgia College recently held a reception for Al Jones in honor of his retirement after more than 30 years of service. Jones has served as MGC’s Water Treatment Operator since September 1981.

On behalf of the Employee Recognition Committee, Johnny McMoy welcomed faculty, staff, and community members, including members of Jones’s family, to the reception. MGC President Dr. Michael Stoy presented Jones with an engraved clock to thank him for his service to the college.

Jones attended MGC from 1974 to 1977, where he earned an Associate of Science in History. During his time as a student at MGC, Jones participated in many student clubs and organizations, including Treasurer and Resident Assistant of Eastlake Dorm.

Jones has been a member of the American Water Works Association for more than 25 years, and also belongs to the Georgia Associates of Water Professionals, where he was named the Top Operator for District 5 in 2009. He resides in Hawkinsville with his wife Lucy, a Spanish teacher at Central High School in Macon.

Jones says he plans to spend his retirement relaxing at home. “I plan to just enjoy life,” he said. “I’ll work in my flower beds and catch up on reading.”

Jones also said he wants to come back to MGC to help out, especially with alumni relations. “MGC has been a part of me since 1974,” he said. “I bleed red and black, but it’s not UGA, its MGC.”
