MGC SCIENCE CLUB HOSTS PRESENTATION ON APPLYING TO VETERINARY SCHOOL
Release Date:12/03/2012

(Cochran, GA) – The Middle Georgia College Science Club recently hosted a presentation by Lakecia Pettway, the Coordinator of Diversity and International Affairs at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. Ms. Pettway spoke to students about the process of applying to veterinary school, including ways they could enhance their applications.

Dr. Sharon Mozley-Standridge, an Associate Professor of Biology and the Advisor for the Science Club, said, “Ms. Pettway encouraged students to make sure that they have good references when applying and to keep up their GPA, but that you do not have to be a 4.0 student to get into vet school. She also pointed out that veterinarians do not just work with animals. You can get into research and help human medicine by working on other animals, and in vet school you learn a lot of things which can be applied to a broad range of careers including public health. Overall, we had a great time learning more about the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine and look forward to maybe taking a tour in Spring.”

Michaela Etter, a junior at MGC majoring in Biology, said the presentation was very helpful. “I learned a lot of good information,” she said. “The speaker was very well informed, and you could tell she was very excited about what the UGA Vet School has to offer.”
