MGC GRANTED CANDIDATE STATUS BY THE AVIATION ACCREDITATION BOARD INTERNATIONAL
By: Tricia Purser Release Date:11/29/2012

(Cochran, GA) – Middle Georgia College was recently granted candidate status by the Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI) for accreditation of three of its programs: the BSBA in Flight Management-Airplane Option, the BSBA in Air Traffic Management, and the AAS in Air Traffic Management.

MGC will now begin a self-study process and will submit the self-study report by November of 2013. After the report, AABI officials will make a site team visit and will give a final determination on accreditation of the programs. Application for accreditation of additional MGC programs will be made in the future.

Dr. Richard Charles, the Division Chair of the Aviation Management and Business Division, said, “Accreditation of aviation programs by AABI is critically important to the reputation of the programs and to the prospects for our students and graduates. Many hiring and bridge programs offered by employers, research grants offered by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and other opportunities require accreditation of participant programs by AABI.”

Dr. David Brockway, the Director of the Aviation campus, said, “Gaining official recognition as a candidate for accreditation is a significant milestone. Candidacy status signifies to academia and to industry that the college has substantial aviation programs and is making progress toward the ultimate goal of achieving accreditation."

AABI is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), and is the only accrediting body for university aviation programs. Accreditation addresses individual programs and is accomplished in accordance with standards developed by AABI in collaboration with the community of colleges and universities who are members of the University Aviation Association.
