Residence Hall Rules and Regulations
Living in a campus residence hall provides many opportunities for growth and development. The residence hall need not be just a place to sleep and store your belongings. With your cooperation, it can be a pleasant living/learning environment. We want you to make this your home away from home. The RH Director and Resident Assistants are always ready to assist you. The following information about the residence halls is provided to help you plan for your residence hall stay:
Residency Requirements:
Students not 21 or older by the first day of classes for semester of enrollment, who do not live with their parents, spouse, or legal guardian within a 40 mile radius of the primary campus they attend, if Eastman or Cochran campuses, and who have not previously resided in a Middle Georgia College residence hall for at least 4 semesters, are required to sign a residence hall contract and live in a Middle Georgia College residence hall.
Rooms:
Each room is furnished with closet, study table, chest of drawers, single bed and mattress, and chairs for each resident. Anderson Hall is set up for double occupancy; however, private rooms are available depending on dorm occupancy rates. There is an additional fee for a private room. All other dorm rooms are set up for single occupancy.
Furniture cannot be dismantled or removed from the room. The bed must be left intact. No structural changes to rooms are allowed, i.e. no permanent materials may be attached to walls, floors, or ceilings. Pictures, posters, etc. are allowed as long as walls are not damaged. Carpeting (maximum 8' X 10') is allowed but cannot be permanently attached to the floor. All residence halls have central heating and cooling with individual controls in each room; bathrooms; laundry facilities; telephone, cable, and Internet connections; smoke detectors in each room; and blinds on windows.
Phone:
Each room is equipped with one telephone jack. Students must provide their own telephone. Local telephone service is free. A calling card must be used for long distance calls. Students should give their telephone number to their parents or others who may wish to call them at the residence hall. Telephone numbers are not published and are not given out to callers upon request.
Cable TV:
Each room is equipped with one cable television hookup. Cable is provided as a free service. Students must provide their own television. Students must also provide a coaxial patch cable from the cable outlet in the wall to their television.
Internet:
Each room is equipped with free Broadband internet access and two outlets. Students must provide their own computer patch cable and Ethernet card. Computer services strongly recommends you keep your computer up to date with the latest patches from Microsoft. We also recommend you install and update on a regular basis some form of anti-virus protection. We are not responsible for removing viruses, or spyware that has infected student computers. Vehicles:
All RH students are allowed to keep a vehicle on campus. A parking decal is required and should be purchased during registration. Decal must be obtained at the Campus Safety Office and must be applied to the vehicle no later than the first day of class to avoid fines and/or other penalties. Students are allowed to park vehicles only in the space designated for the RH in which the student lives.
Personal Belongings:
Students must furnish washcloths, towels, sheets, pillowcases, blankets, bedspread, pillow, etc. (single bed size: 36" X 76"). Storage space is unavailable. Large bulky items, which require storage, should be left at home. The college is not responsible for loss or damage to personal belongings.
Electrical Equipment:
Computers, stereos, televisions, radios, etc. are allowed. However, quiet times are enforced. Violations may result in loss of these privileges.
Refrigerators (maximum 2.7 cubic feet and 5 amps) and microwaves (maximum 1.0 cubic foot) are permitted in rooms. A refrigerator found to contain alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs will be confiscated for one full semester. All electrical appliances must be plugged directly into wall outlets. Extension cords are not allowed.
The college is not responsible or liable for damages caused to any appliance by any kind of power failure or other occurrence. The college is not responsible or liable for the security of any student's personal property at anytime. Loss by fire, theft, or damage is the responsibility of the owner of the appliance.
Items Not Allowed:
Items not allowed in the residence halls include: weapons, fireworks, alcoholic beverages, illegal substances of any kind, large appliances, or hot plates. ABSOLUTELY NO PETS ALLOWED!
Meals:
All students living in campus residence halls are required to purchase a campus dining hall meal plan. Check the dining site for more details. Dining Site
Smoking:
Smoking is NOT ALLOWED in any college building. Outside smoking areas in the form of gazebos are provided. Smoking is restricted to the gazebo areas.
